Stop Light Self Check-In

Supporting other people through hard moments takes something out of you. Whether you're a peer supporter, a trained volunteer, or a helping professional, you've probably had conversations that stayed with you long after they ended. Your body holds that. Your nervous system tracks it. And if you're not paying attention, you can find yourself responding from a flooded or overwhelmed place without realizing it.

The Stoplight Self-Check is a free, fillable self-reflection worksheet designed to help you understand how your own nervous system responds during difficult conversations. It's grounded in trauma-informed practice and built around one simple idea: the more you know yourself, the safer and more present you can be for someone else.

This worksheet is useful for:

  • Peer supporters and volunteers who receive disclosures or hold space for people in distress

  • Mental health professionals looking to deepen their self-awareness and reflective practice

  • Anyone in a helping role who wants to better understand their own stress and activation responses

  • People who are curious about the nervous system, emotional regulation, and what it actually feels like to stay grounded under pressure

You don't need any clinical background to use it. It's written in plain language and can be saved or printed as a PDF.

Fill it out on your own, use it as part of a training or supervision session, or come back to it whenever you notice your nervous system needs a check-in.

If you find this helpful, do not hesitate to book a free 15 minutes consultation if learning more about self-regulation, the impact of trauma on you and your life, or processing hard days and hard experiences.
